Middle School Rowing Club - Co-Ed (Grades 7-8)
About Traverse City Triton's Middle School Recreational Rowing
Middle School summer rowing camp through the TCAPS Learning, Enrichment & Athletic Program (LEAP) are open to all 7th and 8th grade boys and girls.
Our recreational practices have been designed to teach younger athletes the teamwork and focus needed to row while providing a fun day on the lake with friends.
Registration is open until Friday June 21st, 2019, but space is limited to the first 18 participants - so please register early.
Why Summer Only
Throughout the state, midwest and most of the country, there a very few middle school competitions. While middle school rowers are allowed to compete at the high school level at some events, they are still only allowed to race as novices during their first scholastic year of rowing and are often at a size and strength disadvantage compared to their older high school peers - especially their second year when they have to move to the JV level.
Commitment to the Team
Unlike most other sports, rowers are in the boat from the time they leave the dock until the time they return. There are no sidelines or substitutions - but we do stop for water breaks and instructions on the lake. The best way to learn is with the same group of people in the same seats each practice. We ask that you please make sure your child will be able to commit to the team before registering. In the event your child will be unable to make a practice, please let a coach know with as much notice as possible so we can find a substitute.
It is recommended that new rowers and their families review the Rower’s Handbook and understand the equipment rules, practice expectations and inclement weather policy. Please contact us if you have any questions at all.
