Project Pow - Watershed Explorers
Curious Children Wanted!
Project POW! Is a nature-centered STEM curriculum that uses innovative hands-on activities to teach students about various types of wetlands and ecosystems! This class brings a piece of our local watersheds inside the classroom with samples from places most students are familiar with. During the 6 week course, children will experience the rivers and lakes where they play in a new way! This program is extensively hands-on, creating an interactive learning experience that is not often possible in a typical classroom setting. The curriculum explores native aquatic insects and plants, the primary properties of water, mapping (GIS), and stewardship practices. Students will see and use equipment used in the field by scientists and learn about how to determine water health. If your child is curious about the natural world around them, loves science, is a hands-on learner, or gets excited about plants and animals, come join our Watershed Explorers!
For this pilot program sessions are being held at Cherry Knoll and Silver Lake, but students from any elementary* are welcome to join.
