LEAP Fencing Program 2024-2025

For ages 9+

Participation Fees: $100 per course

All sessions will take place at the Traverse City Fencing Club: 2419 SyBrandt, Suite B, Traverse City, MI 49684 (just north of S. Airport off Cass by the Sara Lee Factory)

Traverse City Fencing Club’s (TCFC) youth program is designed as a gateway to the modern sport of fencing. Fencing provides equal opportunities for both boys and girls and if you're looking for a sport that combines speed, agility, and fitness with chess-like strategic thinking then fencing is for you!

We are grateful to have the opportunity to introduce kids from our community to Olympic Fencing. At our club we focus on training and competing with the épée. This short course is an opportunity for students to begin learning the basics, including the history of fencing, the basics of swordsmanship, unique footwork, and strategy.

Our coaches are USFA and SafeSport certified. Robert Bartle, co-founder of TCFC and LEAP coach, emphasizes the importance of fitness, coordination, and the mental-emotional flexibility needed for peak performance. His coaching has helped fencers achieve high rankings and top finishes in regional and national competitions.

Helpful Information:

• Fencing equipment will be available for students to use.
• Fencers should wear athletic clothing, including long pants (no shorts) and indoor athletic shoes.
• Fencers should bring a water bottle to every session.
• Have your fencer bring a healthy snack or eat a light meal prior to class.
• Fencers are encouraged to bring a notebook for reflection and recording information.
• Class may occasionally run long, but we will do our best to get fencers out on time.

Participation Fee: $100 per session

Session 1: Monday Feb. 3rd and Monday Feb. 10th from 5:30-7:30

• NOTE: The same curriculum is being taught in each session.
• Registration deadline: Thursday, January 30, 2025

Session 2: Monday March 10th and Monday March 17th from 5:30- 7:30

NOTE: Payment is required at the time of registration. To register online using a Discover, MasterCard, Visa, or ACH via a checking or savings account please register below. Registration is not complete until your course appears in your dashboard. You will also receive an email from Eleyo confirming your registration. If you do not receive the confirmation email or see the course in your dashboard, be sure you have not left any course items in your shopping basket. If you need assistance please call the LEAP office (231.933.7480). If you did not receive an email from Eleyo or see your course in your dashboard, the payment did not process and the student is not registered.
