About Middle School Athletics
Students grades 6-8 are welcomed to participate in the many LEAP athletic opportunities available throughout the academic year and summer. It is the vision of LEAP to provide students with increased opportunities for engagement beyond the school day through educational and recreational activities to improve learning, health, and wellness. Physicals are required for Middle School students to participate in LEAP sports offerings. Physicals dated April 15th of the prior school year may be turned in to the Main Office at East Middle School or the North Wing Office at West Middle School.     About Middle School Wrestling LEAP middle school wrestling welcomes 6-8 grade boys and girls of all ability levels and experience. This program of educational athletics will focus on skill development, gaining an appreciation for the sport of wrestling, and teamwork. Effort, attitude, and commitment will directly influence individual growth within the program. What to Bring: Athletic clothing - t-shirt, shorts, sweatpants Wrestling shoes Head gear Meet Schedule: TBD 3 STEP ENROLLMENT PROCESS: 1) Registration and Payment (ELEYO) TCAPS Middle School athletes will now participate under the umbrella of the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA). The middle school teams under the MHSAA must be composed of students enrolled in TCAPS. MHSAA teams include Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Cross Country, Wrestling, Softball, and Track & Field and Tennis. In addition to MHSAA teams, LEAP will still have non-MHSAA teams in Volleyball and Basketball. LEAP will accept students from non-TCAPS schools on our non-MHSAA teams whenever possible. If your student is not enrolled at TCAPS, please select the Non-TCAPS option and enroll your student as an individual. All out-of-district individual students will initially be placed on a waitlist. Following the close of registration, these individuals will be contacted by LEAP to inform you if your student’s enrollment has been accepted. Deadline: Friday, December 13, 2024 TCAPS Students: $140.00 Reduced fees are available to TCAPS students who qualify for the free and reduced meals program: Reduced Meals Participation Fee: $70.00 if registered by the deadline Free Meals Participation Fee: $40.00 if registered by the deadline TCAPS shared-time students: $178.00 TC Christian, Trinity Lutheran, GTACS, Children’s House Non-shared time students: $199.00 Grand Traverse Academy, Greenspire, Homeschool, Pathfinder, Woodland Reduced Rates are not available for any Non-TCAPS students. Any non- TCAPS students that are not registering for a specific team participating in our league will initially be placed on a waitlist. Registration deadlines are final. Late registrations may not be accepted after the posted registration close date. If late registration is available, there will be a $25.00 late fee added to the cost of registration. NOTE: During parent registration, you will need to input your students’ TCAPS email address. 3) Sports Physical Need a new physical? Download and print the TCAPS physical form here and then call your family physician or the TCAPS Student Health Center at (231-642-5291) to schedule a physical for your child Middle School Athletes must have an updated physical on file each school year. Sports physicals must be dated April 15th, 2024 or later, & can be used for the entire 2024 - 25 school year. Athletes MAY NOT attend practices/evaluations etc. until this is on file.   • 7th & 8th Grade Titan Performance Training

    Titan Performance Training: 7th - 8th Grade When: Mondays & Wednesdays 3:15-4:15 starting January 6th thru March 19th Where: TC West Senior High Weight Room Cost: $220: Limited to the first 40 registrants. Sign up now! Titan Middle School Performance Training is open to all 7th - 8th grade boys and girls. You do not need to play sports to participate in this program. Our Titan Performance Training staff is extremely excited to begin our new Training Program for Middle Schoolers. We’ll be teaching movement proficiency and safe-effective performance training concepts which are necessary for our optimal performance. Our training sessions will take place in our Traverse City West High School Weight Room. Because of time constraints and resources, this program will be able to offer our kids a progressive design compared to what is being offered during the day in our gym classes. Important Aspects of our Training: Acceleration and Sprint Mechanics Agility Mechanics Jumping Throwing Age Appropriate Strength Training “Safe, Comprehensive, Progressive, Effective, Efficient, Together” Titan Performance Training Program Start & End Dates: Our program will begin on Monday January 6th, 2025. Training days are Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:15 to 4:15pm. This is going to be a year-round program broken into smaller training blocks. Each training block will be approximately 20 sessions or 3 months. We will communicate schedule changes and important updates throughout the session. Each block must be paid separately. West Senior High Teaching Staff Our Titan Performance Coaching Staff brings several decades of high school, collegiate, and professional experience. We’re extremely excited to get this program started and to begin coaching out future Titans! Coach Adam Stoyanoff is the Director of Titan Performance Training, Traverse City West’s Athletic Performance Training classes that are held throughout the day during High School. Coach Matt Bocian is our Varsity Titan Baseball Coach and is Coaching during the day in our Titan Performance Training classes. Coach James Wagner is our Varsity Titan Football Coach and is Coaching during the day in our Titan Performance Training classes. Questions? Athletic shoes (No crocs, boots or slip-ons) Please do not bring shoes with excessive salt or snow on them. Athletic attire Clothing that is comfortable performing physical activity in (ie. workout clothes) Shorts/Sweatpants/T-shirt Hats are not allowed while training. Participation Fee Cost: $220.00 per Training Block Our 1st Training Block will run from January 6th to March 19th (22 Sessions) To assure safety, effectiveness and efficiency, our 1st Training Block will be limited to 40 athletes.
