Students grades K-5 are welcomed to participate in the many LEAP athletic opportunities available throughout the academic year and summer. It is the vision of LEAP to provide students with increased opportunities for engagement beyond the school day through educational and recreational activities to improve learning, health, and wellness.

    Halloween Classic 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament

    Who: Boys and Girls Grades 3-12 What: 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament (2 game guarantee) Where: Traverse City Central High School Gyms When: Sunday, October 26th, 2005 @ 8:00 AM Cost: $140.00/per 4 player team Spectator Admission: $5 for students/adults. 5 and under are free. Team Registration/Format: Two game guarantee tournament play. There are both boys & girls divisions. Divisions are formed by grades/ages. Each team must be comprised of players from the same grade or grades below. Boys and girls may play on the same team, but will be placed in the boy’s division. When forming divisions, teams will be placed based on highest grade/age of any team member. If there are not enough teams in a division to form a bracket, teams will be moved up to next available division. Team rosters may not be changed once the first game has been played. Teams must be comprised of 4 players. Due to registration system limitations, each team should register for the correct division (registration links below) by a team member of the appropriate grade/gender (i.e. a team of 2nd and 3rd grade girls and boys should be registered by the parent of a 3rd grade boy). If a team needs to be registered by a younger player/player of a different gender, please call our office at 231-933-7480 and we can assist you. Awards: Individual awards will be given to first place teams in each division. Extras: All games will be officiated. Parents/Friends will need to volunteer to keep score sheets for the officials. Please remember that the purpose of this tournament is for fun and exercise! Poor sportsmanship by players or parents will not be tolerated!   • Girls Basketball (Grades 4-5)

    About 4th & 5th Grade Girls Basketball Elementary Girls Basketball is open to girls in 4th-5th grade. The season begins the week of October 30th and will run for approximately seven weeks. Teams will practice 2 - 3 days a week and will begin competitions after the second week of practices. Teams will be formed at each elementary school that have enough participants registered to field a team and where a volunteer coach is available. Depending on each school's enrollment, team rosters may consist of 4th grade students, 5th grade students or a combination of both grade levels. In the event of low enrollment or lack of a volunteer coach, schools may be combined and/or refunds may be given. You will be contacted by the LEAP Office in the event of low enrollment for your school. Season Start & End Dates Monday, October 27, 2025 - Thursday, December 11, 2025 Practice Schedule Elementary 4th - 5th Grade Girls Basketball practices will begin in late October. Practices will run 1 - 3 days per week after school at each home school that fields enough players for a team. Exact practice days and times will be determined by the availability of the volunteer coach and will not be known until a coach is in place. Schedules vary from school to school. Following the close of registration, your student’s coach will contact you regarding a more detailed schedule. Game Schedule Games will begin November, 11th and will typically be held on Tuesdays & Thursdays between 5:00 and 8:00 pm. Each team will have an 8 game season. Once the number of teams have been determined at each school, the schedule of games will be posted here. Games will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays (except Thursday, November 27, 2025 - Thanksgiving Day) Helpful Information Bring a water bottle to practices and games. Teams will consist of 7 - 12 players. Teams will play 5 on 5 with 10 ft. baskets In addition to grade level, the skill level of each team may be assessed when creating the game schedule. Therefore, all teams may be scheduled against 4th grade, 5th Grade and/or 4th-5th grade combination teams. The goal of creating a game schedule in which the skill set of each team is considered is to allow players to develop at the same pace as their peers, regardless of grade level. Stealing- will be allowed until a 20 point spread is reached. Any team leading by 20 points or more may no longer steal for the duration of that period. In the event school is closed, no LEAP activities will be held per TCAPS policy. There is no guarantee of a make-up date in the case of inclement weather. Missed games will only be made up if schedules allow. Participation Fees TCAPS Students: $85.00 Reduced fees are available to those who qualify for the free and reduced meals program. Participation fees for those that qualify are as follows: Reduced Meals Participation Fee: $42.50 Free Meals Participation Fee: $25.00 TCAPS shared-time students: $100.00 (Trinity Lutheran, GTACS, Children’s House) Non-shared time students: $110.00 (Grand Traverse Academy, TC Christian, Greenspire, Homeschool, Pathfinder, Woodland, Old Mission) *Reduced Rates are not available for any Non-TCAPS students. Registration Deadline & Details Deadline: Friday, October 10, 2025 Registration deadlines are final. Late registrations may not be accepted after the posted registration close date. If late registration is available, there will be a $25.00 late fee added to the cost of registration. Register for your school below. If your child does not attend a TCAPS school, and it is not listed below, please select the "Out of District" option. In an effort to be a good community partner, LEAP will accept non-TCAPS students when possible. Space is limited and enrollment may be capped for various offerings. For high demand activities TCAPS students will receive priority. Payment is required at the time of registration.
